StarBGone

Introduction

StarbGone is a feature of MPO Canopus that allows the user to subtract field stars from the path of the moving target thus allowing the user to measure the brightness of the target even when it coincides with the field star.  Below are photometry measurements from the same set of images.  The green triangles represent the use of StarBgone while the Red asterix represent a straight out measure based on the targets astrometric position.

As you can see, with StarbGone, a period for this target (2510 Shandong in this case) can be easily derived.  If we were left with the "uncorrected" images one might think the period was at least twice as long.

MPO Canopus is software written by Brian D Warner.
